About Research Ireland Centre for Research Training in Artificial Intelligence
The Research Ireland Centre for Research Training in Artificial Intelligence (CRT-AI) is Ireland's national center for PhD-level training in artificial intelligence, established in March 2019. With over €14 million in funding from Science Foundation Ireland and an additional €3.3 million from industry and academic partners, CRT-AI trains more than 120 PhD students annually through a structured program hosted by University College Cork and supported by partner institutions like Dublin City University and Trinity College Dublin. The program covers a wide range of AI techniques, including machine learning, data mining, and robotics, while emphasizing ethics, fairness, and transparency in AI applications. Students engage in research across various domains such as smart buildings, autonomous vehicles, and climate change. CRT-AI provides fully funded PhD scholarships, which include fees, stipends, and training budgets, and focuses on fostering collaborations through internships and industry partnerships with companies like Dell EMC and Laya Healthcare.
