About RUFORUM
RUFORUM, or the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture, is a network of 175 universities across 40 African countries. Established in 2004 by ten Vice Chancellors, RUFORUM aims to enhance agricultural higher education and research. The organization aligns with various continental and global frameworks, including the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The mission of RUFORUM is to strengthen university capacities to foster innovations that meet the needs of smallholder farmers and value chains. It focuses on postgraduate and undergraduate training, research, knowledge-sharing, and policy advocacy. RUFORUM also provides Graduate Research Grants and supports regional centers of excellence to train future scientists. The organization is coordinated by a Secretariat at Makerere University in Uganda and collaborates with global partners, including the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, to promote sustainable agricultural practices and empower youth in the sector.
